MOVE AND INCLUDE
"We are here to help each other get through this thing, whatever it is." - Kurt Vonnegut
OPEN FLOOR IS...
On the Open Floor we speak in body language. We come to dance whether we need to reflect or to rock out. The practice encourages us to be genuine, truthful, and authentic.
We are always in relationship: to ourselves and each other, family members, friends, lovers, neighbors, co-workers. Yet close, healthy relationships is often the hardest yoga of all. Moving together is a potent and exhilarating way to learn.
The Open Floor Marin community has been gathering to dance since 1984. Dancing in community helps us build trust, cultivate boundaries, and practice the art of generosity on and off the dance floor. We welcome first timers and seasoned movers to share Open Floor classes, workshops, and Community Dances.
WHEN WE DANCE...
As more and more westerners spend the largest part of their day sitting, dance has been dubbed “the kale of exercise.” Research is growing: regular dancing prevents a long list of diseases, increases emotional well-being, and boosts mood, memory and longevity.
Some say our most essential need is to belong; dance communities often feed this healthy hunger. Human beings must have a place where we are known and welcome. When we share a dance floor, regularly and over time, we organically share births, blessings, divorces, deaths, disasters and delights that life brings.
Social isolation and digitized virtual contact makes us forget the vital benefits of literally reaching out and touching someone. In order to thrive, human beings need to be with others -- in real time -- laughing, loving, fumbling, learning, giving and receiving embodied attention.
