UNMASKING
Art Murmur 2025
an Open Floor movement + writing workshop
kathy altman & Lori Saltzman
Assisted by Joseph Machado
June 11 - 15, 2025 | Toronto, Canada
Humankind has managed to work together positively throughout the millennia to survive and progress. How? By the stories we tell.
- Yuval Noah Harari, Sapiens author
To unmask is to reveal our stories: the ones we hide, and the ones we always tell until they become our presentation to the world, Our stories change through the lens of time. To know, mine and revise our stories is maturity in action. Sharing stories in the good company of others is to be true to yourself and to let yourself be known.
Unmasking is for anyone who believes they are not an artist, and everyone who knows they are. Together we’ll ride the untamed river of our creative juices and let its wild current carry us. We’ll dance outside the box, draw outside the lines, pursue imperfection, and listen to the whisper of words on page.
We’ll dance with abandon, take dictation from our bodies, make colorful messes and marvel at the art taking shape in and through our hands.
Stop waiting for a creative moment and realize that you are one. Remember, it doesn’t matter how badly you dance, sing, scribble, or paint, as long as you don’t do it badly like anyone else.
Kathy and Lori have spent decades honing the craft of weaving visual art, writing and theater with dance.

About Economic Justice & sliding scale/tiered tuition
We strive to share our work within a framework of community care and reciprocity, offering tiered price options for workshops, to embody our values of inclusion and economic justice while also generating sustainable livelihoods to support our families. We use a model of 5 tuition tiers, so that participants with more can help those who need some support to come to the dance floor. Tiered or “sliding scale” pricing relies on truthfulness and respect for complexity/nuance. We do not ask for income verification. The communities we want to be part of are ones where accountability and community care are central values. We believe this is where trust can grow - an integral ingredient for the deep work we do together.
Covid Policies: We expect any dancers experiencing cold/flu symptoms to stay home to care for themselves, and the rest of the group. We will review our covid risk mitigation policies one month prior to our workshop.
Accessibility: Beach United Church is wheel chair accessible. Please reach out if you have any questions about your particular circumstances.
